Consumer Action Network (CAN) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 2003 by consumers and advocates. We are an independent advocacy organization that empowers mental health consumers by promoting recovery and self-advocacy. Our goal is to ensure that the direct voices of consumers are integral to service delivery and system change; and to help.
We promote the concept that consumer voices must drive policy, planning, and services in order for the mental health system to be most effective and responsive to their needs. Consistent with our mission of promoting recovery and self-advocacy — in our practical experience — we acknowledge that consumers and family members are at varying levels of comfort in speaking up for themselves and understanding their rights.
CAN has well-established infrastructure, relationships within the community, and experienced facilitators serving all quadrants of the District.
